Beauty treatments and products can beautify, elevate, shape, modify, highlight, hide, colour and transform certain facial elements, while at the same time providing our bodies with much needed pampering and relaxation. As a beautician, your main job is to make people look and feel both beautiful and self-confident. What do I need to do to find a job in beauty therapy?
During or after your beauty therapy studies, you will need to gain practical experience to develop your skills. If you plan to work in a salon, or if you want to open your own business, you will also need to start establishing a client base. Potential employers in the beauty therapy industry look at a variety of factors when hiring beauty therapists:
- Qualifications and training
- Practical experience
- Personal attributes and characteristics (e.g. do you have good communication skills?)
- Whether or not you have your own client base
- Whether you are likely to fit into the working environment
You need to do some research to find out what the requirements are for the specific types of jobs that you want to do. You will then be able to work out how to gain the relevant skills and qualifications, as well as how to present yourself properly in interviews.
Here are a few general tips for an interview:
- Be prepared – do research about the company or business
- Dress appropriately
- Be aware of your body language
- Be positive, but polite
- Ask questions
- And just relax…
